Welcome to the Brookings Curling Club, where we enjoy the sport of curling and foster a sense of community among our members. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced curler, you will find a place to learn, play, and have fun at our club.
As a member of the Brookings Curling Club, you are expected to follow the rules and policies of our club, as well as the rules and regulations of the USA Curling, the national governing body of curling in the United States. In addition to the regular game play rules, the Brookings Curling Club also follows and adheres to the following rules:
- Free Guard Zone - Five Rock Rule: This rule states that no stone in the free guard zone (the area between the hog line and the house) can be removed from play by the delivering team until five stones have been played in each end. This rule encourages more offensive play and strategy. You can watch a video explaining the rule here:
- No Tick Rule: This rule states that if a stone in the free guard zone is moved by the delivering team, but does not cross the back line or the sideline, it must be replaced to its original position, and the delivered stone must be removed from play. This rule prevents the delivering team from clearing the center line and creating an open house. You can watch a video explaining the rule here:
